Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park are located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Some of the best-known sculptors, including Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, Henry Moore, and Alexander Calder, have their works displayed among 300 other sculptors throughout the gardens. Many art lovers hang out here in this 158-acre conservatory and wander past a waterfall, a rock garden filled with rare tropical plants, and Michigan’s largest three-story conservatory. This beautiful attraction is one of the most popular, fun getaways for families and art lovers.  It is rated as one of the 11 top-rated attractions in Grand Rapids.

The sculpture park is the best picture spot in the city.  You can have your photo taken beneath the 24-foot bronze sculpture designed by Leonardo DaVinci over 500 years ago. This unique sculpture was commissioned by the duke and never built because the bronze was needed for war weapons.  Here stands the only American replica of Leonardo’s Horse outside of Milan, Italy.

If that is not enough trivia to draw you to the gardens, perhaps your love of music will attract you to the concerts and special events held here from time to time. The gardens are also a great place for the children to climb on the treetop to the treetop playset.   Water features are fun for the children to run through, and splash in the water, and dig in the sand. It is a refreshing getaway for those experiencing “cabin fever” due to Covid19.  There are lots of space for social distancing.

The family pass is economical and includes the tram ride around the outside perimeter of the park. The park staff is helpful and all in all, it is a very pleasant experience for both adults and children. The small café with a Chihuly glass art ceiling offers boxed food and places to sit indoors and out. Musicians perform outside the café and make the dining experience very pleasant and enjoyable. The park and gardens are a great mix of man-made and natural beauty.  Visitors to the park say that they will return.
